PROGNOSIS JEE Application Performance Monitor

JEE Application Servers are at the center of modern enterprise applications. They are the processing engines that drive database servers, email servers, file servers and business integration servers to deliver end user applications. The user experience and performance of the overall application are closely coupled to the performance of JEE Application Servers themselves.

PROGNOSIS JEE Application Performance Monitor provides a
complete performance and availability management solution
for WebLogic JEE Application Servers.

PROGNOSIS JEE Application Performance Monitor may be deployed in conjunction with other members of the PROGNOSIS performance management suite to provide comprehensive performance and availability management across all tiers of enterprise and web-based applications and infrastructure.

  PROGNOSIS JEE App Perf Monitor

PROGNOSIS provides real-time visibility into the performance of production JEE Application Servers, mapped directly against service level objectives.

Via the JMX interface, PROGNOSIS delivers high-value, low-overhead performance information of JEE applications. Ideally suited for set-and-forget production environments, PROGNOSIS provides performance measurement and alerting of Servlets, EJBs, JDBC and many other vital JEE components - all presented through its flexible interface, optimized for performing root-cause analysis.

For more in-depth performance analysis, PROGNOSIS also provides detailed JVM monitoring. More generally suited to QA environments, JVM monitoring provides performance information down to the Java method level, enabling even the most troublesome performance bottlenecks to be identified.

PROGNOSIS not only delivers performance information for the JEE and its associated JVMs, but also the underlying platform itself. No matter where the root performance resides, PROGNOSIS has visibility - from badly behaving JEE components to highly contended platform resources.

JEE performance management

PROGNOSIS JEE Application Performance Monitor provides real-time measurement of JEE performance and availability. Designed for WebLogic JEE Application Servers, PROGNOSIS provides performance managers with detailed insight into production server performance.

Information is available for all key JEE components, including servlets, Enterprise Java Beans (EJBs), Java Database Connectivity (JDBC), Java Transaction API (JTA), Java Messaging Service (JMS) and Java Connector Architecture (JCA).

PROGNOSIS presents performance information from multiple perspectives, including physical JEE servers and JEE applications, where an application spans across multiple JEE servers. In a multi-application, multi-server environment, PROGNOSIS enables performance to be measured appropriately for both systems and application managers.

Platform performance management

JEE performance and availability is implicitly dependent on the performance and availability of the underlying platform. PROGNOSIS JEE Application Performance Monitor integrates and extends capabilities of PROGNOSIS’ comprehensive performance and availability management for HP NonStop platforms.

Detailed monitoring of server resources (CPU, memory, disk i/o, network i/o) enable rapid notification of resource contention and identification of the contributing sources, wherever their location.

Production JEE servers can suffer from performance degradation due to ad-hoc tasks or erroneous background processing. Since PROGNOSIS has full visibility of server resources, PROGNOSIS can alert to any hijacking of server resources.

Service level indicators

Most organizations define service levels in terms of user experience. PROGNOSIS helps application managers measure the user experience of an application by enabling JEE servlet response times to be mapped against service level objectives.

A hierarchical mapping scheme enables rapid service level configuration, reducing time to value. The PROGNOSIS architecture delivers service level indicators in real time, letting you understand what users are experiencing right now. Alerting capabilities provide notification of degrading performance, enabling preventative action before users are impacted and service level objectives are breached.

Business measurement

Business and application managers can see how customers use their application. Vital information, such as peak usage hours and most/least used features, are readily accessible in online or report format. Strategy for improving usability, increasing value and driving revenue may be set from a known starting point.

PROGNOSIS empowers business decision makers to determine if J2EE applications are meeting business objectives. Key ratios such at logins to purchases, are easily calculated and trended over time. Return on investment may be calculated and forecast based on such historical information, assisting in determining the success of an application and guiding future investment decisions.
