PROGNOSIS Transaction Manager

PROGNOSIS Transaction Manager enables you to maximize the performance of business critical OLTP environments, through improved management of HP NonStop Transaction Manager Facility (TMF) and AutoTMF. PROGNOSIS helps ensure that disaster recovery and business continuity costs are minimized through improved management of HP NonStop Remote Database Facility (RDF).

TMF, AutoTMF and RDF play an increasingly vital role in high volume transaction processing environments. Poor performance or failure of any component in these subsystems can severely affect critical business applications and business continuity. PROGNOSIS Transaction Manager provides the information required to put you in control.

PROGNOSIS delivers manageability to TMF, AutoTMF and RDF subsystems in high volume, NonStop environments. It combines real-time monitoring and problem management capabilities with historical data capture and reporting to greatly improve system performance and reliability.

PROGNOSIS monitors the status of TMF, AutoTMF and RDF subsystems. It delivers in-depth performance and availability metrics, identifies problems and generates exception events. For example, PROGNOSIS will generate visual and audible alerts based on definable thresholds and critical conditions that detect abnormal transaction states or unacceptable updater times.

  PROGNOSIS Transaction Manager

You can view key performance and status indicators in graphical charts and tabular displays. Drill-down capabilities allow you to quickly identify the source of problems.

Combining PROGNOSIS Transaction Manager with other products in the PROGNOSIS suite delivers even greater management capabilities. These include intelligent notification and problem escalation via email, pager and mobile/cellular phone, as well as sophisticated automation and availability management.

PROGNOSIS can also provide transaction identification for Pathway environments, and delivers built-in integration with common enterprise management frameworks.

In-depth status and performance information. PROGNOSIS automatically delivers in-depth information about the status and performance of TMF, AutoTMF and RDF environments. It puts the information you need at your fingertips, improving operator efficiency and enabling quick identification and response to issues affecting performance and availability.
Comprehensive visibility of TMF, AutoTMF and RDF operations. Using PROGNOSIS you will be able to identify, tune and monitor all components and events impacting system throughput, data replication and performance.
Improved readiness for ‘failover’ or disaster recovery. PROGNOSIS provides real-time notification and alerting, resulting in shorter response times in critical conditions. This helps you optimize system and replication performance, minimizing the cost of maintaining business continuity.

Managing TMF and AutoTMF

PROGNOSIS Transaction Manager automatically maintains a close watch on TMF and AutoTMF. It verifies that transactions can be executed on the system by monitoring the components of TMF and AutoTMF.

PROGNOSIS reports any abnormal events or performance metrics such as too many excessively long transactions, which could affect audit trail capacity and in turn prevent new transactions from starting. PROGNOSIS would quickly detect, alert and help you resolve this critical situation.

PROGNOSIS also monitors key TMF and AutoTMF performance indicators such as hung transactions, transaction rates and a range of other factors that impact the health of the system and OLTP applications.

Managing RDF

PROGNOSIS monitors the availability of all processes, volumes, and data throughput in the RDF subsystem. It also monitors vital communication links between the primary and backup systems. Time delays between extractor receiver and updater process are tracked to ensure you are prepared for rapid and efficient failover.

Key TMF and AutoTMF information provided:

  • Overall subsystem status - up, down, stopping, starting
  • Transaction processing - enabled or disabled
  • Transactions metrics - overall number of transactions by status, execution time, rates per second
  • Catalog - status, configuration and capacity
  • Audit trail - status, capacity and file usage
  • Disk and file management - space and capacity metrics for TMF and AutoTMF disk volumes
    and files
  • Resource Manager - status and performance
  • EMS events - critical events effecting TMF or its components

Key RDF information provided:

  • Process management - resource usage for extractor, receiver, updater and monitor processes
  • Disk and file management - space and capacity metrics for RDF primary and backup disk volumes and files
  • Time delay - statistics for extractor, receiver, updater processes
  • EMS events - critical events affecting RDF or its components
