The latest PROGNOSIS on Video over IP

PROGNOSIS simplifies managing IP telephony systems

16 Sep 2005

Integrated Research (ASX:IRI) announced today the release of Version 8.0.1 of both PROGNOSIS IP Telephony Manager and PROGNOSIS IP Telephony Express. The architectural and feature enhancements have been verified by Cisco for the latest versions of their CallManager and CallManager Express product sets.

Kailem Anderson, Integrated Research’s Product Manager - IP Telephony and VoIP Products Group said,  “We’ve included support for Video, a centralized QoS monitoring feature, and handset security monitoring with our PROGNOSIS IP Telephony Manager solution, and support of SRST on PROGNOSIS IP Telephony Express.”

“We were ready for video a year ago,” according to Anderson. “It was always part of our strategy and simply a matter of waiting for market adoption rates to increase for us to release.”

PROGNOSIS 8.0.1 monitors active video calls, video end-points, and bandwidth consumption all in real time. Anderson explains, “Because video over IP is so bandwidth intensive, it’s imperative it be monitored in real time to maintain Quality of Service (QoS).”

The centralized QoS management feature of PROGNOSIS 8.0.1 monitors all voice calls in real time against defined service level agreements (SLA). “This enhancement produces a triple win,” according to Anderson. “The service provider wins because they know instantly if there is a breach of SLA, and they have the information needed to isolate the cause and rectify it in the shortest possible time. The organization wins because it’s standards and benchmarks are being maintained, and constantly high call quality benefits the user.”

Security enablement on the handset allows instant identification of IP phones configured for encryption or authentication. “Asset managers will find this feature invaluable in instantly identifying where the encrypted or authenticated handsets reside physically,” said Anderson.

PROGNOSIS IP Telephony Express 8.0.1 now supports SRST routers. These branch-office routers ‘kick-in’ and maintain telephony services when WANs go offline. PROGNOSIS monitors the SRST from the instant it comes online and provides instant status notification. Anderson says, “If your WAN goes down and your branch-office network depends on your SRST, you need to know you can also depend on your SRST. PROGNOSIS ensures you can.”
